Find an item in your house that begins with the letter "Jj". Practice sounding it out using "rocking fist" every day.

5. Snapsy the Alligator (Did Not Ask To Be In This Book) by Julie Falatko - Watch David Harbour read this story at https://www.storylineonline.net/books/snappsy-the-alligator/ . What kind of animal is an alligator? Research alligators online or in books. Draw a colourful picture and write one or two sentences about what you have learned. SKs may create their own sentences or copy from their source. JKs may dictate their stories to a family member. You may write their dictated stories in highlighter and children may trace with a pencil. I would LOVE to see your research!
Guide for Parents
Here are some activities that you can be doing at home every day to ensure your child's skills are maintained.- Read to your child every day. Ask them to tell you about the story, ask them their favourite part and why.
- Have your child present PAT items every day.
- JK: practice writing your first name.
- SK: practice writing your first and last names.
- Keep writing in the journals we sent home.
- Practice counting toys and items around the house. This develops one-to-one correspondence, each item is counted once.
- Play board games with dice as this develops subitizing skills, the ability to recognize quantities without counting.
- Ask your child to estimate how many objects they have, for example "how many grapes do you have left?"
- Practice adding and subtracting with their toys, "I have 5 cars and you have 3 cars. How many cars do we have altogether?"
- Set up an art corner for your child to draw pictures, paint, create chalk pictures, tape paper to a wall and create a mural.
