While you are away from school, I will be posting daily and weekly challenges, as well as on-line resources. Please check-in daily for updates. It would be wonderful if you could share photos (and perhaps videos) of your drawings, work and ideas.

Weekly Challenges - March 23-27

1. Draw a picture and write in your journal about how you are helping at home. Don't forget to write your name using upper and lower case letters. (JKs - first name only, SKs first and last names).

2. Find an item in your house that begins with the letter "Bb". Practice sounding it out using "rocking fist" every day.

Today's Challenge

Can you find numbers in your house?

Walk around your house and look for numbers around the house (calendars, clocks, labels, games, etc.). You may take pictures of or draw these items. JKs can focus on numbers 1-30 and SKs 1-100.

Colouring

Colouring is so fun and relaxing - even for grown-ups!  Don't worry right away about colouring in the lines - it will get easier with practice!  Visit https://www.crayola.com/free-coloring-pages to find free, printable colouring pages.

Guide for Parents

Here are some activities that you can be doing at home every day to ensure your child's skills are maintained.
  • Read to your child every day. Ask them to tell you about the story, ask them their favourite part and why.
  • Have your child present PAT items every day.
  • JK: practice writing your first name.
  • SK: practice writing your first and last names.
  • Keep writing in the journals we sent home.
  • Practice counting toys and items around the house.  This develops one-to-one correspondence, each item is counted once.
  • Play board games with dice as this develops subitizing skills, the ability to recognize quantities without counting.
  • Ask your child to estimate how many objects they have, for example "how many grapes do you have left?"
  • Practice adding and subtracting with their toys, "I have 5 cars and you have 3 cars. How many cars do we have altogether?"
  • Set up an art corner for your child to draw pictures, paint, create chalk pictures, tape paper to a wall and create a mural.
  • Learn at home resources are available at https:\\www.ontario.ca/page/learn-at-home.
